The Mission
In the summer of 2005 Cedarview Community Church sent a team to the Village of Hope in Zambia to create a computer lab for the Agape School โ a resident school for the orphans who live in the village as well as children in the surrounding communities. This lab consisted of 16 used laptops with industry standard applications โ like Microsoft Office โ as well as specialized learning software to assist the students as they learned how to use computers.
This lab has been very successful. Recently however, the computer hardware (about 5 years old) has started to fail. Those trained to manage the lab have either taken on other responsibilities or have moved on.
It was identified that for the lab to be successful moving forward, we needed to ensure that there is an on-site, dedicated and trained support resource to maintain the lab. Given the substantial investment made in 2005, Cedarview has agreed to provide the support required to hire an on-site computer lab support technician for the Village of Hope in Zambia.
Moving Forward ยป Upgrade Project 2009
In April 2009, a team from Cedarview will travel to the Village of Hope in Zambia. The team will bring some new pre-configured laptops and will assess and repair the existing laptops while on site.
During the first week our task will be to train and evaluate potential on-site computer lab support technicians. One of these candidates will be hired to be on staff at the Agape School to support the computer lab. We will also be assessing and repairing the existing lab in the first week.
Our second week on-site would have us busy doing additional training for the hired technician, as well as supporting the trained teachers doing some practice sessions with the selected resident students.
