Mission: Malawi http://www.mymission.ca/malawi A Mission trip to Mgona, Malawi, in north west Lilongwe City Sun, 25 Mar 2012 13:40:13 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.2.1 Euchre tournament! http://www.mymission.ca/malawi/2012/03/euchre-tournament/ http://www.mymission.ca/malawi/2012/03/euchre-tournament/#comments Sun, 25 Mar 2012 13:36:11 +0000 Jon http://www.mymission.ca/malawi/?p=367 As people gathered together to play euchre and raise money for the trip, we got to meet new friends and build deeper community.  Just over two hours of playing against different competitors with different partners proves to be a great time to catch-up or introduce yourself in a non-threatening atmosphere.  The event was a lot of fun for all, and especially for those who randomly got to yell out “LONE HAND” because it increased their chances to win great raffle prizes.

One of the highlights of the event was when Jono and Rachel did a ‘Tim’s run” and came back with a 10 cup carton of freshly brewed Tim’s coffee, and roll up the rim cups.  They promptly sold the coffee to the highest bidders!  Who knew coffee would produce such a great response?  Other highlights were our generously donated Leaf tickets. Our raffle winner was Ron Duce, who gets to take a friend or family member and go see the Leafs play against Tampa Bay Lighting.

Nothing was held back at this event, the prizes were spectacular, and the enjoyment was top notch.

April 21st 3 on 3 Hockey tournament – $150 / team (sponsor a team if you do not want to play)

April 27 – 28 the youth are raising money through a 30 hour fast called “HUNGER FOR CHANGE” and will stay up all night with other youth raising money for good causes

April 28 Toronto Mass Choir will be performing @ Crosslands.  Early Bird Tickets are $25.  Buy some and bring friends!

All these fundraisers will be great events and will do so much for the entire team!

We will be flying overnight to London, England, where we have a 12 hour stopover before another overnight flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. From there we fly into Malawi.
However, our flights are only being held pending payment.
