The Mission
Our Team will be traveling in February 2009 to participate in various humanitarian projects in Malawi, Africa. We have partnered with a Canadian organization (Visionledd & WOW) which is called to motivate, educate, equip and empower those infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Then we will connect with and assist an organization called “Somebody Cares “, situated in Malawi and established to provide home based care and other assistance to widows and orphans.
While there we hope to be:
- Providing food supplements to home based care patients – medicines are then effective
- Providing seeds, fertilizers and teaching about garden care – increasing the ability to support themselves and providing nourishing fresh food.
- Teaching income- generating activities like sewing, soap & candle making, tie dying – increasing the opportunity for families to financially provide for themselves.
- Conducting home visitations – collecting family histories, taking photographs and preparing Memory Books for the children which assists them through the grieving process.
- Providing home improvements like replacing the roofing and entrance doors which reduces vermin infestation and unhealthy elements from entering the homes.
Once we return home, Somebody Cares, will continue to provide home-based care, support, assistance and teaching – the orphans will not be left alone in their plight. We have already sent ahead of us, funds to assist them throughout the next year.
In general, we will be demonstrating to the people that, indeed, somebody does care. We want to be actively engaged in reaching our neighbours in Malawi; orphans and widows who desperately need our help.
